Over View

Day 01: On arrival at the Paro international airport, you will be received by one of the representatives from Bhutan Free Spirit. We will drive towards the capital (Thimphu), 45 minutes drive and check you into your hotel. After lunch we will do some sight seeing in Thimphu. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 02: After breakfast, we will visit the Memorial Chorten, Tashichhodzong, National Library and the Institute of Zorig Chusum (generally known as the painting school), where students learn the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan.
After lunch drive for about 5 hours to Gangtey. En route we will cross Dochu-la pass (3000m) and drive through Wangduephodrang and enter the beautiful Phobjikha valley. Overnight at camp/farm house, Gangtey.

Day 03: Gangtey Gompa – Gogona. 6-7 hours. We start our trek today. The trail winds gradually upwards through meadows and fields, ascending to Tsele-la pass (3,400m) where we stop for lunch. The trail then descends gradually for some time through forests of junipers, bamboo, magnolias and rhododendrons. After a last short climb, we reach Gogona village. The people of Gogona were originally nomads and they speak a language called Bjopkha (language of nomads). Overnight Camp.

Day 04: Gogona – Khotokha. 6-7 hours. The trails winds up gentely above Gogona village, climbing into a forest of firs, oak, spruce, rhododendron, cypress and junipers. A long and gradual climb takes us up to Shobju-la pass (3,400m). The path leads down to the wide valley of Khotokha, where people of Sha (a region of ngduephodrang district) come in summer to graze their animals. Overnight camp.

Day 05: Khotokha – Chazam/Wangduephodrang. 5 hours. A short ascent takes us to a pass, from which the path descends steeply through ever-changing vegetation until finally reaching the bridge at Wangduephodrang. The trek ends here. Over night at a resort in Punakha.

Day 06: Today we will explore the ancient capital of Bhutan, Punakha. Punakha is the ancient capital of Bhutan. Today, the Central monk body moves to Punakha in the winter when it gets cold in Thimphu. With a climate almost tropical in the summer, the valley is blessed with abundance of fruits and rice. After lunch we will visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong which showcases the perfect example Of Bhutanese Arts and Crafts. After touring the Dzong we will take a short drive in the lush upper Punakha Valley and hike for 45 minutes to the beautiful temple of Khamsum Yulley on a hill. Overnight in Punakha

Day 07: Punakha – Thimphu – Paro. We will drive to Paro today. On the way, we will stop for lunch in a traditional Bhutanese restaurant in Thimphu. After lunch we will continue our journey. Later in the afternoon if we are lucky we will witness an archery match. Overnight in Paro.

Day 08: Hike up to Taktsang or the Tiger’s Nest as most people call it. This magical Temple clings to a vertical granite cliff 800m above the valley. It is believed that in the 8th century, Guru Rimpochee, a tantric master flew on the back of a tigress from the eastern Bhutan and meditated in a cave around which the temple is built. A hike to this temple will take most of our morning. In the afternoon we will host a special prayer ceremony at the beautiful 1200 old Kichu Lhakhang Temple to bring you good luck for the rest of your journey.

Day 09: Depart from the Paro International airport. Enjoy you flight
